The body relaxes into a state of calm, the mind chatters less, feelings become more accessible and an ease of being emerges.
Being outdoors is a natural de-stressor. With fresh air to breath, open space to feel, freedom to move and a surround of visual beauty, the natural environment promotes a sense of well-being. The body relaxes into a state of calm, the mind chatters less, feelings become more accessible and an ease of being emerges. Noting the way the mind and body shift when outdoors, a group of behavioral healthcare professionals introduced an innovative type of therapy which takes advantage of the therapeutic effect of the natural environment: Walk and Talk Therapy.
Walking is one of the most significant and effective forms of physical exercise. It also has a host of evidence based research demonstrating the psychological and spiritual benefits of walking. This includes an increase in mood boosting chemicals associated with relieving stress, anxiety and depression, and an overall strengthening of the mind-body connection. With an increase in endorphins, new thought and insight can emerge, and creativity can be heightened.
The intent of this unique form of therapy, Walk and Talk, is to integrate counseling, nature and movement for the benefit of strengthening the mind and psyche, increasing physical health and fitness and enhancing feelings of appreciation and goodness by being in nature. It is an excellent fit for individuals seeking support for their life issues and concerns and wanting the benefits of physical movement and nature. It is also an excellent therapeutic service for the "busy person" who wants to fit in exercise and therapy in their schedule!
