Dr. Suzanne Nixon has expert training in counseling, psychotherapy, education, energy medicine, lifestyle wellness and integrative health coaching spanning 35 years, Dr. Nixon's embraces an Integrative Behavioral Health framework in the treatment and care of individuals, couples and families.
Her academic training in education (Boston University, M.Ed.) and counseling (Virginia Tech, EdD), provided her with a solid foundation in a multitude of counseling theories including psychodynamic, humanistic, reality therapy, family systems and transpersonal. Dr. Nixon pursued advanced training and earned professional certifications in Gestalt Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and recently completed training in Post Induction Therapy with Pia Mellody.
In the early 1980's she developed a keen interest in complementary and alternative therapies, which resulted in professional training in bodywork, energy medicine, healing and meditation. For twelve years she practiced massage therapy, somatic bodywork and healing in the Washington Metropolitan area.
In the 2000's she completed professional studies in mindfulness meditation with Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Satori; educational training in holistic health with the Scripps Integrative Medicine Center and earned a professional certificate in Integrative Health Coaching from Duke University's Integrative Medicine Center.
Dr. Nixon has been in private practice for a combined 32 years, a professional speaker in the field of behavioral health, somatics, bodywork, healing and lifestyle wellness for a combined 28 years, and has published over 20 articles for the professional and consumer. Her life work has been to help people in their journey towards health and healing, restore healthy functioning in their personal and relationship life, and live an authentic life based in joy and meaning.
